Foundation Hosts High School Breakfast of Champions Event

Xavier High School of Middletown, the Class LL champion and state’s top-ranked team, was honored along with the three other state champions – Daniel Hand of Madison (Class L), Ansonia (Class M) and Holy Cross of Waterbury (Class S).

LSU’s Les Miles Named 2011 Walter Camp Coach of the Year
The Walter Camp Coach of the Year is selected by the nation’s 120 Football Bowl Subdivision head coaches and sports information directors.
Under Miles’ direction, the top-ranked and SEC-champion Tigers (13-0) will meet conference-rival Alabama (11-1) on January 9 in the BCS Bowl Championship Game in New Orleans.
2011 Walter Camp FCS All-America Team
The 2011 FCS All-America Team was selected by the head coaches and sports information directors of the Football Championship Subdivision schools and certified by the accounting and auditing firm, Marcum LLP.
Players from eight different conferences and 21 institutions were represented on the 2011 Walter Camp FCS All-America team. The Big Sky Conferences had the most selections with eight players from six different schools, including three from Eastern Washington. North Dakota State, which will play in the FCS Championship Game on January 7, had two All-America honorees.
Penn State University’s Silas Redd Named 2011 Walter Camp “Connecticut Player of the Year”
Norwalk native and former King Low Heywood Thomas star will be honored on January 14
Awarded annually to the top college football player who is a resident of the state of Connecticut, the Connecticut Player of the Year is selected by the all-volunteer membership of the Walter Camp Football Foundation.
Xavier High School of Middletown To Receive Walter Camp’s 2011 “Joseph W. Kelly” Award
The Joseph W. Kelly Award is awarded annually to Connecticut’s top high school football team.
It is the second straight year and third time overall that Xavier has earned the Kelly Award. It is also the third consecutive year a team from the Southern Connecticut Conference has won the honor (Notre Dame of West Haven, 2009). The Falcons are also the fourth team to repeat as Kelly Award recipients, joining Ansonia (2006-07), Bloomfield (1998-99) and four-time winner Cheshire (2002-05).
Hall of Famer Floyd Little Named Distinguished American
This isn’t the first time Little has been recognized by the Walter Camp Foundation. In 1966, he was named to the All-American team as a running back. In 1978, he was honored as the organization’s “Man of the Year.”
The Walter Camp “Distinguished American” award is presented each year to an individual who has utilized his or her talents to attain great success in business, private life or public service and who may have accomplished that which no other has done.
Stanford QB Andrew Luck Selected Walter Camp Player of the Year
The Walter Camp Player of the Year is voted on by the nation’s 120 Football Bowl Subdivision head coaches and sports information directors.
The 45th recipient of the Walter Camp Player of the Year award, Luck is the second Stanford player – joining Jim Plunkett QB, 1970) – to earn the honor. Luck is also the eighth player from the Pac-12 Conference – and first since 2005 (Reggie Bush, USC) – to be selected Player of the Year.
2011 Walter Camp All-America Notebook
This is the 122nd edition of the Walter Camp All-America team – the nation’s oldest All-America team. Twenty-five players are selected to the first team by the 120 Football Bowl Subdivision head coaches and sports information directors.
Four players – RB LaMichael James (Oregon), WR Justin Blackmon (Oklahoma State), WR Ryan Broyles (Oklahoma) and LB Luke Kuechly (Boston College) – are repeat First Team All-Americans. Quarterback Andrew Luck (Stanford) was a Second Team honoree in 2010.
