Former NFL All-Pro Will Shields Named Walter Camp Man of the Year
Shields joins a distinguished list of former “Man of the Year” winners, including Roger Staubach (Navy), Gale Sayers (Kansas), Dick Butkus (Illinois), Morten Andersen (Michigan State) and last year’s recipient John Elway (Stanford).
The Walter Camp “Man of the Year” award honors an individual who has been closely associated with the game of football as a player, coach or close attendant to the game. He must have attained a measure of success and been a leader in his chosen profession. He must have contributed to the public service for the benefit of his community, country and his fellow man. He must have an impeccable reputation for integrity and must be dedicated to our American Heritage and the philosophy of Walter Camp.
Former NFL All-Pro Tedy Bruschi Named Walter Camp Alumni Award Recipient
Former NFL All-Pro linebacker Tedy Bruschi (University of Arizona) is the recipient of the 2010 Walter Camp “Alumni Award.” Bruschi joins a distinguished list of former “Alumni Award” winners, including Alan Page (Notre Dame), Bo Jackson (Auburn), Tony Dorsett (Pittsburgh), Herschel Walker (Georgia), Mark May (Pittsburgh) and last year’s recipient, David Fulcher (Arizona State).
The Walter Camp “Alumni of the Year” award is bestowed on a worthy individual who has distinguished himself in the pursuit of excellence as an athlete, in his personal career and in doing good works for others. He must be an individual who has exhibited dedication and good moral conduct in achieving success. He must be a compassionate and unselfish person who contributes his time and assistance in helping to encourage and comfort fellow human beings less talented and less fortunate than himself. He must be an individual who takes pride in having been a Walter Camp All-American.
Three Named Finalists for 2010 Walter Camp Player of the Year Award
Two standout sophomores from the Pacific-10 Conference - Oregon running back LaMichael James and Stanford quarterback Andrew Luck – are joined by Auburn junior quarterback Cam Newton as finalists.
The 2010 Walter Camp Player of the Year recipient, who is voted on by the Football Bowl Subdivision head coaches and sports information directors, will be presented live on Thursday, December 9 during the 6 p.m. edition of ESPN SportsCenter.
Rishard Matthews (Nevada) and Von Miller (Texas A&M) Named National Players of the Week
The Walter Camp Football Foundation has announced its Football Bowl Subdivision National Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week for games ending November 27. Please note: this is final weekly selection for the 2010 season.
About the Award: This is the seventh year that the Walter Camp Football Foundation will honor one offensive and one defensive player as its national Bowl Subdivision player of the week during the regular season. Recipients are selected by a panel of national media members and administered by the Walter Camp Football Foundation.
Hall of Famer Chuck Bednarik Named Walter Camp Distinguished American
The Walter Camp “Distinguished American” award is presented each year to an individual who has utilized his or her talents to attain great success in business, private life or public service and who may have accomplished that which no other has done.
Chuck Bednarik, a College and Professional Football Hall of Famer and one of the last two-way players in professional football, is the 2010 recipient of the Walter Camp Football Foundation “Distinguished American” Award.
Leshoure (Illinois) and Hunter (Texas A&M) Named Walter Camp National Players of the Week
The Walter Camp Football Foundation has announced its Football Bowl Subdivision National Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week for games ending November 20.
This is the seventh year that the Walter Camp Football Foundation will honor one offensive and one defensive player as its national Bowl Subdivision player of the week during the regular season. Recipients are selected by a panel of national media members and administered by the Walter Camp Football Foundation.
Walter Camp Announces 15 Players to Watch for Player of the Year Award
The Walter Camp Football Foundation has announced the names of fifteen “Players to Watch” for its 2010 Player of the Year award, the fourth-oldest college football award in the nation.
Quarterbacks from four of the top six teams in the most recent BCS standings are on the list, including Auburn’s Cam Newton, TCU’s Andy Dalton, Boise State’s Kellen Moore and Stanford’s Andrew Luck. The 15-player watch list includes nine quarterbacks, three running backs, one wide receiver and two defensive players.
Dan Persa (Northwestern) and Marco Nelson (Tulsa) Earn Player of the Week Honors
