Walter Camp Names 2008 FCS All-America Team
NEW HAVEN, CT – Two wide receivers headline the Walter Camp Football Foundation 2008 Football Championship Subdivision All-America team. The team was selected by the head coaches and sports information directors of the Football Championship Subdivision schools and certified by UHY Advisors, a New Haven-based accounting firm.
Ramses Barden (Cal Poly) and Terrell Hudgins (Elon) are the lone repeat Walter Camp FCS All-Americans. Barden caught 67 passes for 1,257 yards and 18 touchdowns this season, while Hudgins hauled in 86 passes for 1,116 yards and 13 scores.
In the offensive backfield are running backs Herb Donaldson (Western Illinois) and Rashad Jennings (Liberty). Donaldson leads the nation with 1,784 rushing yards and 21 touchdowns, while Jennings is fifth with 1,500 yards and 17 touchdowns. The quarterback is two-way threat Armanti Edwards (Appalachian State). Edwards is seventh in the nation in total offense (295.6 yards per game) after passing for 2,902 yards and rushing for 941 more.
The 2008 Walter Camp All-America defensive squad includes 11 players who are candidates for the Buck Buchanan Award, presently annually to the top defensive player in the Football Championship Subdivision. Among the standouts include defensive ends Greg Peach (Eastern Washington) and Larry Hart (Central Arkansas). Peach leads the nation with 18 quarterback sacks, while Hart has 12. At linebacker, Murray State’s Nathan Williams has recorded a FCS-best 179 tackles (14.9 per game) this fall, including seven quarterback sacks. Joining Williams at linebacker is Bobby Abare (Yale), who totaled 11 tackles for loss and four interceptions.
Mark LeGree (Appalachian State) and Marcus Haywood (James Madison) lead the defensive secondary. LeGree leads all FCS players with 10 interceptions on the season, while Haywood has totaled 91 tackles and four interceptions.
In all, players from 13 different conferences and 20 institutions were represented on the 2008 Walter Camp FCS All-America team. The Southern Conference had the most players (6) followed by the Big Sky Conference (5) and Colonial Athletic Association (4). Five schools had multiple players selected, led by Appalachian State with three. Elon, James Madison, Northern Arizona, and Montana each placed two players on the 2008 Walter Camp All-America team.

Camp – a former Yale University athlete and football coach – is also credited with developing play from scrimmage, set plays, the numerical assessment of goals and tries and the restriction of play to eleven men per side. The Walter Camp Football Foundation – a New Haven based all-volunteer group – was founded in 1967 to perpetuate the ideals of Camp and to continue the tradition of selecting All-America teams for the Football Bowl and Championship subdivisions.
